What is your returns policy?
Returns can be made up to 14 days after receipt of delivery. Simply send the item back to us for a refund. Don’t forget to include your order details to help us to process your refund quickly. Please note, shipping charges will not be refunded unless returning the product due to damage in initial transit.
Returns cannot be accepted if an item has already been used or installed. Cottage Beams are not to be held responsible for incorrect product installation, or any damage or injury experienced through the installation process.
How long will my delivery take?
We aim to process and send items within 3-5 working days of receiving the order. However, given the bespoke nature of our products, dispatch can take longer – especially during busy times.
If you have any special delivery requirements, or need your product to be delivered by a certain date, please get in touch prior to placing your order. We will make every reasonable effort to meet your wishes.
You will receive a dispatch confirmation by email when your order is handed over to the courier.

How accurate are your listed dimensions?
Dimensions shown are to the nearest ½”. However, it is important to note that products may be up to ½” smaller after sawing and sanding. Generally, we find that products are around ¼” smaller than the listed dimensions.
How do I install my product?
Every product is accompanied with installation instructions as well as fittings and brackets. However, it is important to note that the fittings supplied are not suitable for every wall or room. We are always more than happy to give you further advice or answer any questions regarding your product and its installation; please give us a call!
How do I look after my oak beam?
Your beam is ready for installation; there is no need for any varnishing or waxing. However, your beam may naturally dull over time. We supply tins of wax to help keep your beam looking new.
Will my beam crack after installation?
Surface cracks may already be present in your beam prior to installation. Further cracking is possible after the product is installed – especially if the house has central heating. However, this is a normal part of the wood’s acclimatisation process, and it adds further character to the product. We would advise you to store your beam in your house for around two weeks before fitting it. Remove all packaging to allow the product to get used to its new environment. Gradually increasing the temperature in the room over the two-week period is the most effective acclimatisation method.
Where are the concealed bracket holes?
Holes are generally drilled for the concealed brackets in the largest face of the product. We will advise if this is not the case. Holes can be drilled in a smaller side on request.
Can my beam be fitted to a plasterboard wall?
Beams can be fitted to a plasterboard wall if you are able to find the timber uprights. However, fitting your product to a brick or breezeblock wall is always a better option. Our recommended maximum beam size for fitting to a plasterboard wall is 6”x3”.
It is possible to use plasterboard screws with the supplied keyhole brackets to install your product.
